EU AI Act August 2026 Deadline: Global Standard or Loss?

The interesting part of the August deadline is not the penalties, it is the shift in what counts as evidence. Obligations around high-risk systems assume you can produce a record of what an automated system did, on what basis, and who was accountable for it — after the fact, to someone who was not in the room.

Most agent deployments cannot produce that today. Logs exist, but they capture calls rather than decisions: which agent acted, what it was asked, who approved the risky step, and what the human decided when it escalated. Teams that treat an attributable trail as a compliance chore tend to build it once and badly. Teams that treat it as operational infrastructure discover it was the thing making their agents debuggable all along.
